What role do you wish the sculpture and your work to play in the citizen's future?
I love the reaction of the people of the community. If I hear the words "It can't be done." The project really interests me. It is a challenge to create public art spaces that are thought-provoking and innovative. But in the future we are going to need to be more creative and open-minded to survive all the rapid global change. At the local coffee shops here people are discussing art because of this public art installation. It has the ability to improve social life in areas and bring new energy into the town. It can bring people together to connect as they walk around the sculpture and have a look. My aim is to give something valuable back to the people with the public art project so folks feel that there's a different new mood in town.
This installation was created from welding large steel beams together and stands about 4 metres tall. The large piece creates a kind of vertical steel pattern designed to evoke emotion and spark conversation. I see my works as places beyond what we get to notice in the everyday as it gives people a moment to reset their minds and say what is happening here? This piece was placed in this location temporarily in front to the library for a local Canada Day celebration and then later moved to a local farm for a community event.
