Taking art into the streets...
The biggest challenge as an eco-sculptor is to adapt the materials to fit with the environment and social context of the installation in a relevant and meaningful way. In this particular situation the scene was perfectly set at a tire recycling facility. Early one morning Martin entered into the area where there were tires scattered randomly in no particular order. Sizing-up the site using all found objects in the area he was able to create a playful recycled tire garden with a couple of cans of old paint, complete with a vase of overgrown metal flowers. The owner of the facility showed up 1 hour later and loved what she saw! Turning all her piled up backlog of work into something very unique although she had no idea who had done the work. In this way, Martin draws attention to how we interact with the world around us. There are limitless possibilities.
