Recycled wood and metal
We have an abundance of resources here on the west coast of BC. There is so much wood, water, clean air and fertile earth at times it is difficult to appreciate. As a sculptor Martin likes to draw attention to our role in environmental solutions to the way we live on our ever-changing planet. To make social change not as a money-making scheme but as a fun way to exchange ideas and inspire the creative process.
This recycled house took 1 year to build and about 6 months of paperwork. It is about 85% recycled with large wood beams from a local elementary school that was demolished earlier. The building plans were based on available salvaged materials. The house is a 3 story 1600sq.foot space with concrete foundation and new argon gas-filled windows that reflect the hot sun. This is an example of an art form that is not only an eco-sculpture but a beautiful living space.
